Called to CraftsmanshipWelcome to Monk Made! I'm Jason Boone and I run a small, one man shop, that's centered in the rolling hills of Morgantown, WV. Since 2013, my work has grown from a passing interest and part-time hobby to an occupation with a mind of its own.
Before I entered the leather world, I've worked as a counselor, white collar crime researcher, and legal researcher for the energy industry. The "Monk Made" name was born out of my interest in psychology and philosophy. I've always admired those individuals that take their own path and work hard along the way. The Process
The process I use is the same used by leather artisans for centuries. I use only the highest quality leather for the job at hand. I prefer to use vegetable tanned leathers, which are in my opinion, much better suited for personal goods. These leathers will initially have a slightly firm feel to them, but will become more supple once broken in.
The smallest of my items take approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete, while the Ode models take as much as 10 hours. Each component is precisely cut, with each stitch being hand sewn and closed. Every edge is finished using only canvas, water, and beeswax. A meticulous process results in a much higher quality item and one that will endure everyday use for years.
Please see my Guarantee page and know that if it's Monk Made, it was made with care, attention to detail, and an obnoxious passion that won't leave me alone!
